A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Can anyone help with information regarding the number of NoI MkVI's that were fitted with No4 furniture and issued as service rifles at the start of WW2? Also, does anyone know when and or where the NoI MkV and MKVI's were disposed to after they had finished their service life?

    VI's

According to published materials, the stock of Mk VI's were put into service at the start of WWII, and renumbered, with an A suffix. They were stocked up with No. 4 wood. I also understand that some VI receivers which were not built up in the 1930's were also built up. After the war, these rifles were actively sought out and destroyed. As was noted, a war was on and detailed records were not kept of this time frame.
