Help on transit chest ID for No4 Mk1 T
Ok i have 2 very different Transit chests for my rifles. Both appear to be British by checking the screws on the hinges. Some of the differences are obvious like color and info on the sticker inside the lid. Some are dimensions and hardware appearance. Little things like the thickness of the dovetailing etc. Id like to know if there are a lot of variations and what rifle should be in which box. I have 2 1944 BSAs. One seems to have been in aussie hands at some point in its life. The aussie rifle came in the 2nd chest.
1st chest:
Green chest appears to be original finish. Oct/1944 dated sticker inside marked K.H.K. Mentions Scout telescope in contents list. Handles are folded soft leather w/ light tan. Twist locks are cast with cleaned casting lines. mustard colored felt inside.
2nd chest:
Brown chest appears to be original finish. Apr/1942 dated sticker no mention of telescope, marked H&S Ltd. Handles are harder leather dark tan no stitching or folding (the same width and thickness as a 1907 sling, no holes). Twist locks are the same design but thicker cast with rough casting lines. Had a tin card holder nailed to one end but is stored inside now. light tan colored felt.
Any good reference material out there about this???.
