Just checked my 82s. One is military marked, the other isn't. The military one has a pilot hole where a centre swivel could be installed, although one never was. I wonder how much these rifles were actually shot.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. I see what you mean, mine has that hole too.
I got the non military M82 this week, it's in beautiful shape. Note the short forend...the seller told me that's how Cooey made them, after the war civilian production. I think I'll leave it that way, although...if Numrich wasn't sold out of those band sets I'd buy them for both rifles and it might still happen, who knows. I also received an NOS peep sight for the M82 Cadet, and it's now on there, so both rifles have peeps. The Mossberg has a swing over peep and is a very nice rifle with a 7 shot clip, it's literally in new condition.
On Joe Salter's website, there are several Cooey M82's, if I'm not mistaken some of them are not C/|\ stamped...they seem to be $275usd rifles.

These Cooey's are very nice rifles, I love the huge forestock...

I'm waiting for the Enfield Sht 22 in the mail...

BTW, I'm actively looking for the right deal on a good camera. Does anyone know why you have to load your pics to the internet first before posting them on here? I could wish you could upload directly and save that extra step.

Cooey certainly could have marketed the rifles in that configuration. I suspect that the "Senior" (later model 75) single shot descended from the 82. There is certainly a similarity between the 82 and Senior stocks, and the barrel lenths are the same. Can't imagine Cooey wasting perfectly good product.
I'm on dialup. It takes about 8 minutes to upload a single photo to a hosting site. Wish there were a faster, more direct way.

Model 75 was introduced in 1937 followed by Model 78 target in 1939. M82 appears to be a M78 target with extended forestock.

I should have checked my Belton before speculating!
