    $900 for a COLT WW2 M1911A1 shipping box!

    Now that i have your attention, I was at the local shop and saw a S70 Nickel Gov Model sitting on the shelf. Tag states it has the box. So I ask to see the box and they hand me a original WW2 Colt box with a Colt '44 serial number on the bottom. Inside was a WW1 cleaning rod, brush and a partially opened contract mag that is NOS. I tried to buy the box by itself but they wouldnt do it. So I bought the whole package for a pretty good price of $900. I didnt really want the gun and really wanted the box. I thought it was pretty cool to get a real COLT box, eventhough the M1911A1 that came in it originally is probably long gone.
    Hopefully everyone agrees that this is a REAL box as I believe it to be.

    The box looks real to me. As to real value for the box, that's a tough one. It's too bad that You will never find the original numbered Colt A1 to go with the box. The condition of the box is a bit rough too. All this said, I believe the box will still be worth $100 by itself and the mag and cleaning rod are probably worth that much as well. The Colt Gov't Model that you got is in itself worth every bit of the $900 that you paid for the whole works, so I think that you did good.

    Thats about what i was thinking it was worth, I figure I will keep the box until I find a matched gun WW2 Colt in its orignal box. The Gov Model cleaned up pretty good with a little Flitz'n. The blue mag doesnt have a mark on it and doesnt look like its ever had a round in it.
