Rokwell, that is not where the impression from the IPW recoil plate would be. Not fall enough to the rear.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. Rokwell here's some more pics for comparison. Has 2 on the slide, RP on front of the long blade of the rear sight, 2/43 Rock barrel with P. P in circle under grip. Hope this helps. Anyone in our group looking for a Reising ? Mike.

Thanks Mike! Now that M2 marking on the side of the receiver. Logically, looking at your picture, it has to be that the M and the 2 were maybe held in a fixture, but not all one piece. This is because the M on yours is upside down! I still wonder what this stamping indicated!

It is thought to be part of the machining operation/inspection on the receiver. It seems that all of the completed IP receivers I have seen have it.
