    New to me 1903

What can you tell me about my first vintage military rifle?
Springfield 1903 Serial number is 1479200
The stock has been refinished and most if not all of the markings sanded off. It has an aftermarket barrel with no markings on it, six grooves.
I was told by the son of the owner (deceased) that he had it set up for match shooting. It does shoot very well for me and I have only used CMPicon Greek ammo so far.
The bolt is electo penciled with the serial number and is very faint but still readable.
Any and all information would be appreciated.

Your rifle started out as a M1903A1 NM. From the SRS data: 1479200 A1 NM 08/29/1936 DCM Rifle Sales 1922-42
It appears from your pictures that the rifle has been altered from it's original configuration by adding the receiver sight and the M1903A3 hand guard.

Hard to tell for sure (it may be a M1903A3 handguard) without a better picture, but the handguard almost looks loike a modified M1903.

Thanks for the information. If you let me know what pictures I should take, I will post more when I get home from work.

Despite that it's not in original configuration, it is still a beautiful rifle. Thank you for sharing!

Rick................A second look confirms that you are correct. The rear sight ladder has been removed, but the base is still here. A 03-A3 H/G would be much longer and extend to the receiver.

    Abpos,
    Thanks for the kind words.
Here are some more pictures that I hope are little better.

And could someone tell me if this would be correct for this rifle.
It has steel "frogs" I think that is what they are called, and a date of 1943 even though it is hard to read, It looks to never have been used or placed on a rifle.

How about value on the sling?

Have the holes for the rear ladder sight been filled in? I don't know why it would be so smooth there.

It's beautiful. I know nothing about values of parts, otherwise I'd comment on the sling.

Has the stock been "shortened" a little bit? The barrel, forward of the upper band, almost looks a little long.

The stock has not been shortened, it is an aftermarket barrel that is a little shorter than original. Thats why there is no rear sight.
