I could be wrong but in The Eagle Has Landed, I recollect they also had some carbines with metal venterlated handguards. As has been said. Good book. Poor film.

Yeah, that was the one. I remember Treat Williams in it for the most part. And I remember them clearing a church once and they were all on Full Auto and shooting from the hip. That was about the most part that I remember.
I saw a few carbines in "We were soldiers" but I didn't see them firing at all and didn't see them that much.
There was another with Burt Lancaster called "Go tell the Spartans". Burt didn't carry one, I don't recall, but his Cpt. under him did. That was kind of an interesting movie. Watched it a long time ago.

I thought that "The Thin Red Line" was a great movie.
I realistically portrayed what a bunch of untrained, scared shitless kids probably really did on that island. The movie was stolen by Nick Nolte as he often does. The assault up the ridge by John Kusack was a great piece of film making.
Pork Chop Hill was also a very correct movie. Most of the actors were ex GIs and it portrayed pretty much exactly what happened on that hill. Read the book by SLA Marshall before watching the movie.

That is because Sean was playing Sean. Mr. Hand made that movie worth watching/
