    Remington 1903A3 loading issue

I picked up a sporterized 03 awhile back an I've been slowly putting it back into the military configuration, finally got it all together an there is a small issue, when there are only two shells left in the magazine well, I eject the second to the last one then last shell pops out of the magazine also, it works fine till there are only two left or one left I guess, any ideals on what I might have wrong???

Mongo - Welcome to the forum!

I'm sure others can help you more, but I will start off by asking what type of stock are you using? Is it a GI stock or a repro?

There is a certain amount of clearance that is recommended between the mag well and receiver. I believe it is about 1/16 inch. Aftermarket stocks sometimes have an issue with this.

If the gap is larger, the follower may be hanging up. I'm sure some others can be more specific about this issue and the problem you are having.

    Mike

Sounds to me like a weak follower spring very easy to change out and see if that might be the issue.

its got an un issued scant stock that I bought, an mounted it in, I compared it to my brothers 03 an my spring was stiffer than his was an just looking at the two side by side we couldn't see what could be causing it, they seemed identical except my spring was stiffer when pushing down on them works great till you go to load that last bullet an it kicks the empty out an the the last one will jump out also.

I would put your brother's follower and spring in and see if the problem goes away. If not the feed lips may be worn. OK, my last suggestion. I just restored one too and it has feeding issues but the opposite of yours in that has to forceably drag the rounds out of the mag well. This takes some stiff pressure on my part, so who knows what we have done. I think they are just tired.

sounds like a 1917 spring, swap it for a 1903A3 spring, and i bet that cures your problem.

Unfortanetly for me I didn't test it while it was in the sporter stock an I've since sold the sporter stock so can't see if it was working in it or not but I'm assuming it was, since the springs are a fairly cheap piece I'll get another one an see if that fixes the problem. Thanks for the suggestions.

    Mongo,

I had feeding problems with mine. I had a correct spring and correct follower, but because they may have been of different timeframes, they didn't fit together properly. The spring didn't slide into the slot on the follower far enough. I resolved by grinding the part of the spring that slides into the follower back an 1/8 inch or so. That resolved my problem. May not be your issue, but one thing to check.

When you got the gun what was the caliber? If it had been changed the feed lips of the receiver may have been machined.
