    Telescope Scout Regiment refurbishment..

I have finally acquired a Telescope Scout Regiment It is in good used condition with good clear optics.
The previous owner must have polished it daily, it really dose shine…..

But … It has the brown plastic pebble type finish, and some areas have chipped off.
Has anyone successfully repaired this type of finish without recovering the whole scope?
What / How was the original finish applied?

I got the scope to fill a No 15 chest or a L42 transit chest would it be worth chemically blacking the “over polished” brass draw tubes?

    Thanks …

In the Instrument shops we used to just strip off the old leather and that brown stuff if it was unserviceable and re-cover them with black rexineicon material. Sometimes we couldn't get the bnlack stuff so used to use a deep brown colour. Strangely enough, it came from the equipment repairers shop where the same brown rexine was used to repair the covering of the seats in the old Army Bedford and Javelin coaches. You know the sort of stuff......., that used to stick to your sweaty thighs and calfs on the school bus where comfort wasn't a high priority. Now that I come to think of it, comfort wasn't a high priority in those old RASC/RCT Bedford coaches either

If I was you I'd bead blast the draws if they've been brassoed to within an inch of their lives thyen leave them out over the winter to naturally return to how they should look. Then re-pack the draws. I've got some of the hatters felt if you need a bit

You could ask Johnathan Mooore - on here as 'saddle sniffer' or is it 'saddler' if he'll re-cover the main body in his magical leatherwork. I see that there is a perfect Scout Regiment case on that auction site. Cheap too, only £6 so far

    thanks peter
I'll avoid the rexineicon at this time ( just re coverd the champ seats with some) the areas of missing finish are small enough to be left as they are. I was just wondering if anyone had attempted a patch up job!!!!

I was looking for a scout telescope than needed re-covering, thinking it would be cheep!!!! (one has just sold on "that auction site" for more than I paid, and it needed a total re-cover)
As part of my resetelment I did a leather working course with a local saddler, and I am looking forward to having a go at recovering a leather one myself !

I do have a "a small amount" of felt thanks

Valley sniper did a short article a fgew weeks ago about replacing the brown covering using a coloured epoxy. While you're doing your leatherwork, maybe you could look at my whips, masks and other leather 'restraining/entertaining' gear that I keep in the bedroom!!!!!!!!!!

    I'll try anything (almost)

good ideas from valleysniper...I may go with the miliput or thickened epoxy

(yes the saddler did do "other items" more profit in them than horse tack its all about finding your market)
