US Property marked Mossberg .22 bolt gun @ local shop: Should I buy? What's it worth?

From what I can determine it is either a 42M or a 44 model. I didn't look at it closely enough to see the exact model, and didn't find out until I got home that there were a few different models. Im leaning towards the 44 model because I dont think it had a full stock all the way to the end of the barrel.

It has the rear flip around peep sight. It has a USGI sling, and the stock is in decent condition. bluing is worn but not rusty.

the only "problem" with it is the plastic grip is broken at the very bottom where a screw holds it in place.

The shop wants $200. Soooooo should I buy it??

    Thanks!
    Clay

I passed on one at a local gun show for the same reason (broken in the same place). Not knowing if the part could be replaced i let her go. As I remember your price is close but yours sounds a bit mor worn than the one I saw. I would be interested to know if the plastic piece is avaliable.

Price sounds fair for condition . I've paid as low as $125 to as high as $350 for Excellent condition US marked 44s . Same range for 42MBs too. Main thing to me is barrel and bolt lockup / headspace condition before moving on to finish.
As was said , the plastic triggerguards and the red/green plastic fire/safe buttons are available and cheep . I think front sight hoods and proper swivels are still hard to find , but those , too , might have changed.

Vic Havlin has parts including the trigger gaurd. havlinsales.com

Asking price is the same I paid for my 44US and I considered it a steal. Love shooting it.

Well I went back and looked at it today. Its a 44.

It is actually in better shape once I really started to look at it with the intention of buying it. The blue is much better than I thought, and the stock is pretty good as well. Here are some pics:

So what do you guys think??

Since it has the clip and peep sights you did very well, They are tack drivers with Federal 510 ammo which is cheap. Enjoy.
