    Albion? Or Enfield No.2 Mk1**

Here is a Mk1** from my collection, its a 1943 Enfield marked Mk1** but it dosn't have the serated back strap found on the Enfield guns. It is completely flat just like the Albion guns, could this be a unfinished Albion gun passed to Enfield to complete? The left side plate is a very poor fit, I wonder if this is original but as it was made from parts, wasn't up to standard. I would have expected all parts to made to the same spec but this is massively out. Anyone confirm this or have an idea?

I think I've at least on just like it. Complete with poor fitting side plate. Always figured it was just to speed production.

About the only way to tell origins would be to compare subinspectors' markings or machining marks between known manufacturers.

RSAF Enfield switched to the smooth backstrap in 1942 with the adoption of the No.2 Mark I**pattern revolver.

Thanks for that, I couldn't find any reference to a switch so that answers that question.
