    Canadian ranger rifle replacement

Hi there. Not strictly an Enfield related topic but here goes anyway. Are the Canadianicon Rangers still considering replacing their no 4 303's? I read somewhere that they were considering the Ruger Gunsite Scout in 308 Winchester as a replacement for their faithful Enfields. Would be great for us Military shooters in Australiaicon if they did as then we could use them in our sporting shooters service rifle comps. Even better they are available in Left handed configuration. Due to our draconian gun laws no Semi-auto rifles allowed in Australia. So we are stuck competing with 100 plus year old Mausers and Enfields etc.. Thanks

The Canadianicon Ranger Rifle replacement project ran into a few hiccups about a year ago when industry balked at DND's terms...

Blazer he means we have no choice. Parts are hard to find ammo at service spec harder Mk7 projectiles rocking horse droppings. If a military somewhere pickedup a bolt action rifle like the ruger scout or AIA life would be good again.

Was chewing the fat over a couple of ales on Saturday evening with the diehard fullbore gents and the discussion invariably came down to the fact that fullbore, as we know it, is just about dead in the water within the smaller clubs and whilst F Class Standard is keeping some interest and infusing new blood, unless things change there will be nobody left to run the clubs in ten or so years time.

My suggestion was to start a class using a standard platform, say, Tikka T3 in 223 with a standard low cost/low magnification/low priced optic matched with a commercial factory round that a bloke can use on the side as a hunting outfit and compete with at club level.

Surely the powers that be could at least look into something that would infuse interest and new blood into the system

It's very sad because it's such a great sport.

I fully enjoy every full bore shoot I attend, and service shoot too. Now just an aside, we are attracting more new young shooters into service shooting presently, and have been over the last few years. In my little neck of the woods anyway. Great to see, and great to see some ex shooters rejoining the fold. More of it!

As far as I see it, Full Bore and Service shooting have never been more inclusive with F class, optical classes, and non-service categories. For the most part they pretty well have a slot for you whatever you want to shoot (within limits), you might not win anything but you can compete and have a crack.
