    CMP Krag Barrel: Sight Screws

The rear sight screw holes on the new CMPicon Kragicon barrels are drilled and tapped for 8-32 threaded screws, whereas the original screws have a smaller metric thread. Does anyone know if anyone is making screws with 8-32 threads suitable for mounting a m1901 sight on a new CMP Krag barrel?

Use allen head screws you should be able to find one with a big enough head that you can turn it down to the proper diameter to be the pivot point for the sight, meaning the front screw.

If you Google "krag rear sight screw thread size" there is a good discussion on the threads.

FWIW - I am not aware of anyone who specifically makes Kragicon style rear-sight screws for the 8-32 t.p.i. screw-holes used on the Criterion barrels.

Looking up the dimensions for the 8-32 screw-thread gives a maximum diameter of .1631" and a minimum diameter of .1571", (and of course 32 threads per inch).

The best likely solution (for a Criterion barrel) would be to hand-craft 'replica' screws by reworking 8-32 Allen screws.

In regard to original Krag rear-sight screws, the Frankford Arsenal (1902) Tap & Die set contained a Die and Tap for .156" X 30 t.p.i.

I measured an original front screw from a Krag 1901 rear-sight, this morning. The maximum thread diameter was .160" X 30 t.p.i.
