Would that mag with the white stripe be from a Cdn EX1 by any chance? I need one for this old girl.


Now deactivated unfortunately, but it was sold by an auction house as an unregistered prohib, so it's options were pretty few.

The L1A1 shot better than the 1A1, and I've not fired the C1 yet.

The EX1 were supposedly standard FN commercial production rifles of the day, so I would assume they were metric. The little tab to retain the mag into the gun is different...the variations to the mags are shown in the early North American FAL story. I don't think they have any manufacturer markings on them.

The army cadets had the EX1s in their stores as drill purpose rifles, and often they would have had the white stripe. Since army cadets were somewhat known for liberating loose items like the mags, I know there is one waiting for me out there somewhere.

I would like a new buttstock for the EX1 as well. This one has been repaired. It may well be std commercial FN production, I will have to keep my eyes open to see the difference.

I am in Afghan these days. I see lots of different firearms, from AKs to M14s, and of course many M16 variations. I have not seen one FN however.

As per the Belgiques in the 3rd volume of the FAL bible:

The Ex1 is not "A" "commercial production" rifle of the day. The Ex1 was the FIRST production FN-FAL ever. All previous FALs were in prototype form only (@60 guns total).

Canada was the first country to order (June/July '53) production FN-FALs, the first country to adopt (what became) (Dec/Jan '54) 7.62mm NATO, and the first country to adopt (@mid '54) the FAL as it's service rifle.
