Shipping a rifle
I've looked for the answer to this all over the place and only saw mixed answers. I'm in the market for a Springfield 1903. I live in Texas. If the seller lives in Texas, can he ship the rifle directly to me?

Not an expert but I am sure one will chime in. My understanding is that unless you posses a C&R (for curio and relic arms) or an FFL it is not legal to ship or recieve a firearm. Experts?

Best thing you could do is ask a reputable FFL that you know. I have a C&R and bought C&R class rifles from people who were not in my state and were not FFL01 or C&R - no problems legally, just follow the rules of the transaction, and the paperwork. In my state I can sell and ship firearms as a private individual, but they MUST go to a C&R holder or an FFL01, depending on the firearm, and I MUST keep records for my book. So technically, non-FFL to non-FFL is pretty much illegal in the US. Gun smugglers and criminals dont follow the rules.

The short answer is yes. However, I understand that UPS and FedEx will not ship firearms unless the shipper, receiver, or both have FFLs. You may be able to ship by USPS. The GCA 68 covers interstate shipment, but you want to know about intrastate shipments, which do not require FFLs. There may be a state law that applies, too.
