Type 38 with Type 99 style buttplate..

A friend that owns a gunshop showed me an old Arisakaicon with termite damage on the stock. I told him I had a spare stock at home, took it home and cleaned it for him, and when I was assembling it noticed the end of the old stock had a 99 butplate. I am sure it is a type 38 6.5 and my question is..since the 27 was a real late series did the japanes ever put type 99 buttplates on 6.5's

    Nagoya Armory ..27 series marking..

    Thanks..

Nagoya arsenal series 27 introduced the cupped butt plate on the Type 38. It's the only manufacturer to use them.

Kokura used a semi-cupped butt plate on series 23 and 24

So termites like Arisakas also? That's a shame. Are you able to post photos?

I think the type 97 also has a cupped buttplate, but the stock is relieved for the scope mount, so it isn't apt to be easily mistaken for a Type 38.

    A type 38:

Note the "peep" type rear sight. The two should go together.

That has to be one of the more bizarre and unfortunate things I've seen. Thanks for posting photos.
