Barrel question for Replica N0 4 T Sniper

Hey all

Having let another origional Sniper rifle slip through my fingers ive decided to
to start building my own SMLE No 4 T.
What barrel should i use for origionality - From the research ive done so far it would look like a 5 groove non "H" barrel.
Were there 2 grove sniper rifles ?
Were there any "Heavy Barrelled" sniper rifles ?

Is it a SMLE/No1 rifle or a No4 rifle you're going to start building. They're both different beasts
If it'a a No4 based replica, then the oriuginal barrel is the bog standard barrel as fitted on the production line at the factory
Officially there weren't any 2 groove No4T's because the specification laid down said that they should conform to blah blah blah and so on. But we know that there were two groovers. In fact two groove barrels are as good/accurate as any others
No heavy barrel No4 snipers. Just bog standard off the shelf/factory floor stuff

All of thge questions you are going to ask in the future have already been answered zilllions of times on this forum. I suggest that you set a few hours aside and do a bit of back-reading before you go any further

Thanks for the reply Peter. No 4 is my goal.
I will do as much reading as possible but i do get sidetracked easily at times. I have done a fair amount of research but often find conradictions that drive me up the wall.
For instance i was told that all No 4's were fitted with 2 groove heavy barrels as standard ... therefore if very accurate new stock No4's were set asisde for "sniperising" then there would be Heavy Barrel 2 groove No 4 snipers.
So far all the no4 snipers ive seen all have 5 groove barrels ...... i need an assistant !

JasOn: I know what you're going through! Finally recieved my first genuine 4T a few days before Christmas after previously buying 2 fakes. The first fake embarasses me now to think it sucked me in but it was cheap and I've kept it and now have it fully functional as a "replica". Have you come across any obvious or admitted fakes (or incomplete replica projects) that you could buy as a starting point? If the pads are solidly and properly installed it might provide an alternative (depending on your own mechanical ability). But whatever you do, you have days of research ahead of you just within the material on this forum (the articles by Peter L. and others plus dozens of useful threads). And, of course, Peter's book on the No.4T is essential reading. Good luck with your efforts.

What are you going to use as the basis of your build? Are you planning on fitting a repro bracket and scope, or some other scope?
