Front Sight Height
I just read the post about changing the frount sight blade on a P-14, it was informative. I don't own a P-14. But I read some where {on the net} the battle field sight on the P-14 were set at 300 yds and the ladder sight started at 100 yrds. That was one reason the sights weren't the same as the 1917, as well as the differance in the belletristic. If that is true wouldn't it shoot high at 100 yrds. Or is it true you can't believe every thing you read on the net. LOL

Yes it's true. You certainly can't believe everything.
On both the P14 and the M1917 the ladder sight starts at 200 yards. On the P14 it is graduated up to 1650 yds. On the M1917 up to 1600 yds. The markings are closer together on the M1917, matching the flatter trajectory of the 30-06. The backsight leaf for the M1917 is thus about 0.3" shorter than on the P14, but the two are mechanically interchangeable.
Both rifles will tend to be have a POI that is high at 100 yards if you aim at the centre of the black. Using the 6 o'clock aim with the 8" black should put the POI pretty much central at 100 yards/meters, but in the end it will, of course, depend on the ballistics of the cartridge you use.
If you do find it necessary to fit a higher front blade, the Lee-Enfield blades will fit!

FM 23-6 says the battle sight for the M1917 is calibrated for 400yds.
The Addendum to the Musketry Regulations Part One describing the P-14 also says it is 400yds.
