Drilled and tapped receiver fix.

Does anybody know if a receiver that has been drilled and tapped can be fixed. I am getting another 03 and would like it if the rifle could be restored and have the holes filled. If not I might just put a Redfield mount on it and an old weaver scope and just enjoy it. I will post pictures when the rifle gets here.

A pro can fix it right. Not sure who to recommend. It won't be cheap, either.

This might end up being a shooter if it is safe to shoot. The guy I got it from said he had shot it. It came with a bag of extra parts including the rear peep sight that was on it.

This is a low number project??? Forget the project. Sell it off and find a high number receiver.

From what information I could find it was made in 1928. I assume it is a safe rifle to shoot as soon as I get some things straightened out with the sight situation. I am still trying to decide to try to plug the holes or try to cover them up with a scope mount and put a vintage scope on it or put the peep sight back on it and shoot it. I hate to throw away any kind of gun even if it is ugly. This one is quite a project.

From the looks of your rifle, its a 03 in a 03a3 stock and handguard set. Finding a good stock for both rifles isn't that hard there out there. Finding a complete rear sight for a 03 Springfield is kind of tuff in good shape, most guys find parts here and there and put there own together, if you have the original rear sight complete or some of the original parts that came with the rifle your ahead a few bucks.

The drilled holes in the reciever, they can be plugged trimmed and dressed down and blended, and the rifle refinnished. The down side is no matter how well the work is done they can still be seen. Its your call how far you want too go, but If you can live with that go for it.

Sorry, my bad. It looked like a 130,xxx receiver, but there is another number hidden there. Chuckindenver might be the guy. But I still think it won't be a cheap fix.

Thanks for all the help with my rifle. From the looks of the barrel it really needs a new one. I texted a picture of the receiver to my favorite gunsmith and asked when he had time for a new project and he said "YUCK!" but he is looking forward to doing his best to save the old girl. I will probably be looking for a good used barrel and I will try to fab some kind of one piece scope mount for it. I am a Tool and Die maker so this won't be impossible for me. I will probably try to find some sort of old scope that will look ok on it and just enjoy it. I don't have much in it so far and spending a few extra $ for a decent shooting and looking .30/06 is OK with the wife. I am new to this site and I love the old posts as much as the new ones. I seem to learn something new every time. The guys on here are great.
