Looks like some that Riverbank Armory has for sale.
http://www.riverbankarmory.com/parts1.html
Just says "M1 Carbine butt plates. Post war unissued"
Maybe someone else will know more?

BobK,
There were 2 kinds of USGI buttplates made with the diagonal pattern.
The early Inlands and the Underwoods.
When measured across a 1" row of dots-
A early Inland will have 11 diamonds
Underwoods have a finer sized diamond, with 13 per inch.
I believe the one you have pictured comes from one of the commercial carbines.
Here's a link to a Buttplate ID chart.....

Be nice Charlie, Jim

I have pretty good pictures of the various G.I. buttplates, but this one didn't match any. I don't have pictures of commercial buttplates and for some reason (Windows 8 ) the link to riverbank isn't working. Thanks for the help.

BobK,
I know your's is off a commercial.
But to tell the truth, I just don't pay much attention to them unless I smell USGI parts or wood.
Cheers,

Inland vs Underwood
P.S. I wish my link to Riverbank didn't work........... Think I'd prefer Russian porn.
That OK Jim? LMAO!!

While we're on the subject of buttplates, does anyone know at approximate what serial number Inland switched over to the horizontal pattern?

I've got a 476K Inland that's got the horizontal pattern and that contradicts the books I have. I think it's original, but maybe a sharp Carbine Club member could give us a hint? - Bob

OP's buttplate looks like the ones on Auto Ordnance carbines. My guess, anyway.
