    Sight dovetails cut too deep?

This is a question I've been thinking about for some time. I am always on the look out for used barrels (mostly 1903 Springfield) to complete some of my project guns. Occasionally I will come onto a barrel that was used on a sporter, but often they have a deep looking dovetail cut for the rear sight. I can put a filler blank into them easy enough but I'm wondering at what point this could become a safety issue? Some of them look pretty deep. Has anybody seen a "blowout" or other issue associated with this? Maybe I'm overly paranoid? Salt Flat

If the barrel's not blown out when you get it, then it's fine. That sight base wouldn't keep it from failing, if it was going to fail. (That's assuming that there's been at least a few rounds through it before you got the rifle for little or nothing...)
