IR IP Stock Repair

I had this IR IP stock come in. It had a bad crack that had been crudly repaired. Like someon used Elmers glue and just slathered it in. My customer wants it done right so step one was unglueing it and starting over the right way. I'll clean the crack of all the old glue and reglue with the proper glue and clamps. The white spot are after a wipe down with DNA, they realy show up. They will be removed. It also has a chip be the recoil plate that will be fixed. It looks like someone sanded out a rack number, thats a touch up. Should be right for the customers IP when done. Will keep you posted.

On a repair like that , is there a certain type or brand of glue you like? How well did the wood match back up after you got the old glue out? Good work so far

In pics 4 and 6 you can see the band spring hole is full of glue. That took some time to get it out without damaging the hole. I have not finished cleaning away all of the Elmers glue yet. When it is done then the match up takes place. Last step before reoiling is glue and clamp. Pics of the recoil plate patch and chip be the recoil plate nut to follow.....Frank

Loctite liquid in tight crack, gel in large crack. If this was going to be a shooter stock I would put threaded brass pins in it.

Man, you are a wizard if you can save that piece of firewood. I think even the depots/arsenals would have trashed it.

Here is an update on the IP stock. It took quite some time to get all of the old glue out of the crack. Worked under the lighted magnifier with small picks for a long time. It will never break there again. When it is reoiled I don't think you will see wear it was broken. More work to do but this one deserves it.
