    Unmarked canvas carbine case?

Came across this case, not a stencil/stamp on it inside or out, unlined, talon zip. Could this be USGI or otherwise? Thanks, Don

I went through about 40 zipper cases that I have. All are marked inside. I have brass and aluminum zippers. Your stitching and tabs look good to me. I think it is good.

Define 'riggers' please, I can only think of parachute riggers? Cheers, Don

They were the guys that worked in canvas goods. We called them "Omar" as in Omar the tent maker. They are schooled in working in that sort of thing. Some very skilled indeed. They're the guys that modified the Airborne's equipment for them before the D-Day jumps...

They also modified carbine pouches to hold 30 round mags.

I had a canteen cover that a guy told me was a "paratrooper" because it had reinforcements sewn on the back where the wire hook is. Would that have been done by the "riggers" or were they made different in the first place - or maybe just another story? - Bob

Or it's a mounted canteen cover.

I take it that "mounted" would more likely be WWI than WWII, or were they still being produced during WWII? If I recall correctly, this one had an early 40's date. - Bob

WWII, the one I have is dated 1942 or '43. Mounted could mean both horse or mechanised. Some of course did find their way to the paras, but they weren't made specifically for them. The WWI mounted canteen covers had a leather strap with a snap on the end.

It's a model 1941 mounted canteen cover and model 1917 mounted canteen cover.
