Did the Type 3 Barrel band see any use in the Second World War?

I've never seen any photographs of the Type 3, only type 1 and type 2's. The M3 Carbine was technically just an M2 with an inferred scope, so I was wondering, did the M3's have Type 3 barrel bands, because they did see use on Okinawa.

There were Type III bands in the Pacific. I have seen pictures from Okinawa and Iwo Jima with type III bands. Someone posted a picture from Italy (1945 IIRC) that looked like a type III band on a carbine.

The M3 was standardized on August 16, 1945, so, obviously, did not see use on Okinawa. The Sniperscope, M1, was the model that saw action there. That model was adopted in March 1944, two months prior to the approval of the Type 3 band.

There is a famous film clip of a B-29 ditching off of Okinawa, among the LSTs... One of the men in the foreground has a M1 carbine with a bayonet lug (type 3).

No mistaking what it is.

In the first photo the description basically says the island was Iwo Jima and the plane was coming back from Tokyo and was shot up pretty bad and with badly injured crew. Dense fog shrouded the island and the plane had to ditch. The type III barrel band I think was as early as November/December 1944. Sorry, I don't have my books handy.

The only photos so far found of type 3 bands in Europe are all post war pictures so it appears that no later carbines with the type 3 band were in use during combat in Europe. The picture of the carbine off of Iwo Jima has been a source of disagreement in the past as some feel the caption under the photo is wrong and that it's from a later time. M2 carbines were used in the Philippines towards the end of the war and those would have had the type 3 band.

To me, it looks like a leaf sight.

In the spring of 1945,only 1/3 of Inland carbines had the adjustable rear sight as there was a shortage of the adjustable sights.

I just picked up an unissued, all correct 6.6M Inland with KI front band (type 3) and a Type 2 (adjustable) PI rear sight, barrel dated 1944, so some were around, but obviously they didn't all make it into combat.
