Talking M4gery RANGE REPORT: WOW, I am impressed!

Well I decided to test my recent M4gery build on paper, and get it dialed in "dead on" POA/POI at 250 yards with the red dot. I was on patrol day shift in the mountains today, on overtime, so it was a perfect opportunity.

I measured off 60 yards (according to my ballistic calculator, 60 yards = 250 yards POA/POI with the red dot on the carry handle mount, 3.5" above bore). I used the open passenger door of the Jeep with the window rolled down as a rest. The target was an M1icon Carbine 25 yard sight in target, which was perfect size to have the red dot show black all around at that range. I think the red dot is about 3 MOA, as it covered less than half of the 3" carbine bullseye at 60 yards).

After several "sighters" to fine tune, I got two amazing groups: 7/8" and 1" at 60 yards, or probably less than 2" at 100 yards. I have never gotten that good of a group with a red dot on an AR platform in my life! It doubly amazes me, considering my only rest was standing, leaning on an open Jeep door! I like this weapon!

Ammo used: Federal/Lake City M193, late production.

    Weapon:
DPMS 16" M4 barrel, 1/9 twist, with a Wilson Combat comp on it.
Colt M16A2 upper and bolt carrier group
Stag Arms lower with a Colt SP1 early lower parts kit
H buffer and USGI M4 recoil spring
Magazines are USGI Parson's with new springs and Magpul followers.
Vintage Tasco "Accupoint" red dot scope. This is the predecessor of Tasco's current "Propoint" scopes, which are used heavily in the mid-west and south on shotguns for deer hunting.

As you can see, it is Kalifornicating compliant with no "evil features," (Hammerhead non-pistol grip, pinned stock and comp instead of flash hider) so I can use my pre-2000 possessed high capacity magazines. Oh well, we do what we have to, so that we can do what we need to!

I absolutley hate the hammerhead, but what can you do? The rest, considering what you're about out there, seems like this carbine will back you up perfectly. Told you DPMS barrels were OK. No mystery barrel...

There is something to be said for using good quality parts. You can't co wrong with a Colt M16A2 upper and Bolt carrier group, or with a well used Colt SP1 lower parts kit. It is well worn in, very smooth, and maybe 4.5 pounds, but even. The only cheap thing I used was the no nome M4 stock that I pinned. (it seem blasphemy to pin a Magpul!). The working parts, though I replaced. I used a USGI M4 spring I had new in wrap and the H buffer. Very satisfying. Almost 400 rounds since I built it, and zero malfunctions. It is a carbine I can really bet my life on!

And at a moment's notice may have to. I have a lot of odds and ends around, I'd probably just find myself grabbing the standard stuff in emergency. M4, Glock22...they don't give me problems.

You know I could never get the animosity towards collapsible stocks and pistol grips. My wife who is all of 5 feet tall can shoot my AR very well because the collapsible stock can be shortened to fit her very well and the pistol grip positions her finger exactly where it should be on the trigger.
    Libs must really hate women.

I agree. The grip actually is not too bad once you get used to it. It has the same feel as an FN P90 5.7 PDW, though.

That is one ugly gun! It makes a Mosin look like a prom queen.

edited to make sure imarangemaster understands that I was talking about the P90 not his M4.
