They were used for setting up the cone of fire on the Browning aircraft MG's. The British, Canadians and US all used them. Power is about 2 1/2 and there are NO adjustments for the layman. Israel used them for a sight on their equivalent of the Carl Gustav anti tank weapon. I'd put a value on it of about $20.00 as what the hell will you do with it ?? They can also be used for collimating scopes. If you can get it for UNDER $20.00 I can use it for a spare in collimating on my optical bench.

I have something very similar, about 5 inches long, marked as TELESCOPE M77C STOCK NO. 7578383, also SERIAL NO. 12800 and, under that, 7671373......which is NOT my girlfriend's phone number. So many numbers, all for one little old scope!

It also has a (somewhat worn) decal reading (gold against black) "THIS INSTRUMENT HAS COATED OPTICS CLEAN LENSES CAREFULLY".

Installed is a reticle graduated for Charge 7 in a 105mm Howitzer. Somebody installed it backwards, but we'll just ignore that. Reticles on these could be removed and changed-out when and as required.

I wonder just how many OTHER applications these were put to?

Does anyone have information as to period, cost, production figures, possible applications?

I bought mine several years ago at a gun show. It reminded me of the ones we used to sight with on the Fireflies but, of course, we never saw those dismounted.

Think the scope m77c is more similar to the m38a2 which was used in a periscope.
I have an m38a2 but am looking for an m40 or m38, any ideas?
