    paint on Winchester rear sight

Recently noticed a comment and pictures by "ric hntr" in a thread regarding a Winchester carbine describing gray paint on the rear sight, portion of the thread is attached.

Was interesting to me as I have a Win in the 6.54 mil range that has the same areas of paint and the gun appears to probably be original with very little usage. The pictures he has posted of the rear sight could have been of mine as the paint locations etc. are so similiar.

Have searched this subject without finding anything beyond his post and was wondering if anyone can shed light on why Winchester would have put paint on the sight in those areas and did any other manufactures do it as well.

My Items for Sale WRA Carbine in the 5.4 range...
Nice carbine. I think it is correct. The first adjustable rear sites WRA used were stamped and marked "H" in a shield. Also, If there is any flat grey paint on the rear site, It is a WRA trait.
Although early for this rear site change, this carbine might have been sitting around and a stamped rear site was added before it went out.

See photos for Stamped rear site with some grey paint as used by WRA at about that time period.

There is a brief mention of the gray paint on Winchesters in CC NL #355p12.
