Well credit for not being a bear defense thread. I'm guessing you're not on many hunting forums. Obviously .30 Cal has taken uncountable bipeds over the years, so take your choice. If one were wanting a little more reassurance, .338 is a popular big bear cal in Alaska. By that extent .35 and .375 would be good choices. and of course the 45-70 in a compact guide gun would likely be Ideal considering terrain.

    movin on.

I'll have to agree with the Native Americans. They believe he is a Spirit who goes between 2 dimensions an inter-dimensional being . I would have to go with a Garandicon , HK 91 or a FAL.

OK, Looks like I may actually be going on a bigfoot hunt. Not to kill it but to investigate it. A very close individual to me had an encounter she could not explain. I encouraged her to report it and someone went to investigate her story. While in there, they had the crap scared out of them by something huge moving in the brush and later trees being pushed to the side. They did not see anything but between that and the signs they found on the ground, he wants to arrange for a team to do a nighttime investigation complete with night scope and thermal.

Now I'm not saying I'm a believer but I know this person well and they are quite familiar with the outdoors and what lives in it and this did not fit a large bear on it's hind legs. There are bears there, I've seen a few so it is still possible.

In any case, if I go, in the dark, I'm not planning to go unarmed, bear or bigfoot. 45 Auto my first choice, may take a Tokarov as a backup.

Use the Ruark principle of enough gun a nice Holland and Holland Dble rifle in 600NE with 900gn projectiles quick follow up shot once you come down from recoil and apparently the 600NE will sit an elephant on its date unconscious for 20 minutes or so even if you miss the brain due to the kinetic energy inflicted.

But to be safe and not get close as this beastie would rival Australiaicon's Yowie call in close air support with a Warthog A- 10 and have it spray some 30mm from its GAU minigun that should liven things up

Anyway good luck with your friend's book it could rival pandoras box but for us in the real world we will be sticking to what we respect and know and that is real Milsurps.........

Transient dimensional being! Really that's not new, had that myself when I got really ****ed in a night club once thought I time travelled but ended up forgetting where I lived cause I thought time had shifted in the space continuum and I was not where I was supposed to be on the planet.
I did have a good talk to Ghandi though about transience and the altered state of mind...............

I'd try my High Def. video camera first, if that didn't scare the fur ofr it, and it kept advancing, my normal back up is a model 29 Smith in 44 mag.

I'm kind of getting a kick out of the whole thing. I encouraged her to report her sighting and they were very serious about investigating this. It's been less than a week since she saw it and they came out within a day of her reporting it to see if they could find any sign. They just got into the woods on an old road and were approaching where she saw it and that was when they heard the crashing through the trees. Whatever it was, it was big. The investigator said it sounded like a horse or a large man in heavy boots. They waited there a bit and then continued down the road once it quieted down. Shortly after that they hear a noise near the top of a ridge and looked up to see small trees being pushed to the side as something traveled through them. When they got to the area of the actual sighting, they found well worn trails through the grass, packed down and larger than what deer would typically make. They also found a bed in the grass that was 5 feet long. A deers bed isn't going to be larger than about 3 feet. They found frogs that were eaten with the exception of the legs. No tracks, no crap.

The guy documented everything. make extensive searches, etc and then determined he'd seen enough to seek permission for a night time observance of the area. It is right next to a restricted area (research) granted to a local college and the area they were in is public ground.

The plan is to just take some chairs out and sit quietly where they can observe the area and watch with night vision and thermal scopes.

The description was a very tall (7') brown animal walking upright and bobbing to the left and right as it walked. Quick on two legs and it took off fast when they saw each other. It going in the opposite direction and not dropping to all fours. She concedes it could be a man but a large man and in an area few go into and wearing heavy clothing on a very hot day.

She and I have both been invited on the expedition. Her because it was her sighting and me because I encouraged her to report it. Depends when it is but I could have fun sitting out some night.
