Adams Arms piston kit

Fellas, I just installed an Adams Arms carbine piston kit. 15 minutes and the install was done! Very easy! The modification to the Blackhawk hand guard rails system was a little more time consuming though. I took it out for a test drive yesterday and WOW! Flawless performance.

Pros:
ease of installation
quality of parts
reliability
after the shoot cleaning
price, very reasonable

Cons:
no bayonet lug
no sling attachment point
have to purchase a picatinny mounted front sight
and not such a biggie, Adams Arms logo everywhere!

Overall, I'm very pleased with this system. I did check out the CMMG system as well and they have a sling attachment point and bayonet lug.

Thanks Bob, This one is a CMMG build from a few years ago. Hence the Kaliforniev legal Prince50 Mag-Lock Kit
(uses a small Allen key to remove the magazine). I have an Olympic Arms from the 90s with a fixed A1 buttstock that is set up nearly the same as this one sans the vertical grip, Blackhawk rails and AA piston kit.

Funny, my AR-15 is a '90s Oly with an A1 upper and buttstock and an A2 lower. Gotta stick to brass-case .223 but it shoots really well.

If I ever get around to shooting full auto with a suppressor again, then a piston driven upper will definitely be on the "to get" sheet. Otherwise, it's not high on the priority list.

The reduction of the amount of gas in the face during bursts with a can due to the piston system (last tried with an early HK416 on the way back from a T&E session at Ft. Benning) is amazing. Especially when firing from the left side. Single rounds suppressed weren't nearly as distracting.

my adams piston upper has two threaded holes on the bottom of the gas block.
hopefully that is where I can attach a sling swivel.
the buttstock came with a swivel attachment.

I'm curious why you miss the bayonet lug Bill? I agree because of my military time. I wouldn't consider not having it. Also, why not change out the mag catch? You don't have to keep that one do you?

Ha Jim! The magazine catches were on all my weapons the day after I got up here. The bayonet lug? Just an aesthetics thing I guess.

I moved up here July first. I have got to say this was the best thing I've ever done for myself. Getting out of a state that in no way has mt best interest in mind was a no brainer. I've heard lots of excuses from lots of people as to why they won't or can't leave. Excuses like my kids, my grandchildren, my family. I totally understand that and respect it. However, I had my daughter up here for a week and she fell in love with it and wants to come back. I have my stepdaughter and grandson up here now and they love it. For a person who has a career job, that decision is a tough one but at what point does a person say enough is enough??? I have found in my life that if I'm camped out near a hornet's nest and keep getting stung then one of two things must happen unless I want to keep getting stung; either I pull up stakes and camp somewhere else or destroy the nest. Well, I can't destroy the nest so I pulled up stakes.

I didn't pin the plug, they pulled it for me. Eight years on SWAT, too many fights with crooks finally took its toll. I've had four surgeries on my left knee. Three to repair tears in cartilage and the last was for a total knee replacement. That replacement was done January 16, this year. Cal-Pers notified me March 22, this year that I was no longer welcome and had to leave. After a combined total of nearly 30 years in law enforcement I was ready. I had been looking up in this area for two years because I fell in love with it 25 years ago. Christine still has to work (bless her heart) and was able to secure a transfer to PBSP in Crescent City so it worked out perfect. The timing could not have been better. She was ready to blow the pop stand also.

So here we are, enjoying the life we have made for ourselves. The beach is literally feet from the door. Deer and elk abound, so far the weather has been great (no gawd awful raining and cold as most believe for the area) and the best neighbors in the world. He and I got into trap shooting a couple of months back and now I'm hooked! Life is SO good!
