    My first Carcano

    Hi
Having owned a M38 bayonet 10 clips and other assorted Italianicon equipment for a number of years i now finally have a rifle. The Carcano is a rare rifle in the UKicon and seldom seem to come up for sale so couldn't miss the opportunity to by this one. I believe its a Carcano M38 short rifle in 6.5 made by Terni and dated 1941, the number on the stock matches the action the bore is excellent and appears to have had little use, I assume this rifle was reconditioned after the War ? as it has so much finish on it. It is stamped DAV on the stock there is also a C stamped on the top of the stock if these marks mean something to someone. The bolt operates much smother than I excepted and all round the rifle exceeds my expectations, even had a 3 piece cleaning rod in the butt stock I look forward to hopefully taking it to the range next week.

DAV = Direzione d'Artiglieria Verona = Ordnance Directorate Verona.
C= an inspector's mark, not otherwise identified.

    Hi
What can I say i think this rifle rifle has all the makings of becoming one of my favorites. After some experimenting with powders, Unique and Trail Boss and using hard cast Lee Cruise Missile bullets.I have if you look at the second picture decided to settle on 9.5 grains of Trail Boss(also no key-holing with TB).
The targets were shot at 50 meters the last picture with the 4 shot group was using a front rest from a bench.

That Trail Boss load certainly shows promise. Was loading some into .44 Mag cases yesterday, and ended up measuring each charge. It's difficult to get it to meter as well as more conventional powders, but it seems to be one of the better "modern" propellants for lead bullets.
