03 Springfield with a "hatcher" hole.

Hi all. I've never been in the 03.section before. I don't even own one, but maybe that will change. There is a 03 on GB right now that has me interested but I know nothing of 03's. I have read many posts from here and the CMPicon forum on 03's with a hatcher hole. It was used by the Marines, but the Army did it too. OK, really what I want to know is, is that one worth bidding on? GB # 341565721. Sorry, I have no idea how to make a.link to this thread. Auction ends tomorrow so I might have done this too late, but thanks for any help.

Congrats Sriverrat11, that is a nice gun, I sort of specialize in the 1918 03's both SA and RIA.

For the most part she looks very original, probably rebuilt by SA in the thirties, the bolt is a late model 1903A3 added later, but that's no real concern!

Thank you so much Tom. I was really apprehensive. I know very little about 03's. My main interest in this one is the possibility it was a former USMC rifle. I have 3 Garands and a Carbine, but this will be my first 03. Thank you for you're words of encouragement. I really wasn't sure if it was worth the $950, but I decided to take the plunge.

It looks like a nice rifle but don't get your hopes up about it being a marine '03. The hatcher hole by itself doesn't mean anything as there are several other factors that play into that determination. I would guess based on the condition that it is a Greek return sold through the CMPicon.
