    Angry Springfield M1903, Northern value

Around 20 years ago, I collected Springfield M1903s and most of it's variances, overall well over 100 items. One of my sons got seriously ill and I was forced to sell them off to pay the bills. This coupled with the fact I was getting burnt out on collecting just U.S. arms, I just plain stopped for awhile and just stuck to the gunsmithing. Things improved and I started collecting again but with the focus now set on milsurp, seems that in this area it's far more affordable and just plain fun. At a local sw=how this weekend I was looking at the Springfield 03's and was stunned by the asking prices. Is this the same in the northlands? would an 80% gun go $1,500.00??SDH

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. $1500 is expensive even in the USAicon. As I understand it, they can be had in the $200-300 range through the CMPicon still.

Up here a truely nice 1903 is about a $600 gun most days, less if messed with in any way. 03A3's are maybe $350-400 or so.

They are not particularly common north of the line. They do turn up from time to time, of course, but there does not seem to be any great quantity of them. I've been looking for a bubba'd A3/action thereof/even a receiver to make up a simulated A4 without much success.

At the Tulsa show in October there were scores of '03's. The vendors had settled on $600-800 as their asking prices.
