Canadian Military Cleaning Kit

I bought this at the last gun show I went to for $20. It's a great looking kit, looks to be Parker Hale. There seem to be two different sizes of rods in there, probably both 5.56 and 7.62. Anyone know all the details on these?

Its an FN section cleaning kit. The rod has a handle end, center section and an end section (so brushes and jags will screw onto). Should also have a pull through, 7.62 brush, jag, 2 piece tooth brush and oil bottle, FN multi tool, 4x2 patches.

Thanks. Unfortunately no FN multi tool. I used to have 3 of those from different countries, wish I kept them.

At the Ancaster show I got a C1 multitool, so I believe this kit is now complete?

No it's not complete. You are missing the 4X2s and there is no oil in your bottle

These cleaning kits are still part of the weapons tech tool box (or at least they were 3 years ago when I got out). During my time in the tool crib, it seemed odd to be continually ordering things like the FN multi-tool and the various SMG C1 special tools to replace the missing ones.

If I recall correctly, when I would try and order the complete cleaning kit, the CFSS would make you order each individual item seperately. I could check my old microfiche downstairs to see if it breaks down the kit, or whether there was a check list for it's contents.

Not a bad cleaning kit - however one of the two cleaning rod sections has to have threads on both ends. One thread is a small dia to fit into the rod sections and the other end has a larger dia thread to fit into the brush/jag. I just put 5 of them together last night.

I was looking at my buddy's several kits the other night and I am missing a lot of pieces that should be there...

There should be 1 bore brush and 1 gas tube brush (marked 35) and a chamber brush. I may have a spare gas tube brush and I do have a spare chamber brush for sure. I also have the proper paper wrapped package of 4x2 cleaning swabs.

Your kit seems to be one of the older ones due to the material and should have a pocket for the combo tool behind the pouch where you have the oil bottle (usually placed in the bottom pouch so if it leaked the swabs wouldn't get soaked) The 2 centre pouches were for the coiled pull-through and the 2 piece green cleaning brush.

I have a complete kit, put together from several incomplete ones. A lot of them out there have two male/male threaded rod sections. Took me three and a half kits to make one complete one, but I also managed to get another complete rod (old wood handled one) so I can make a four section rod for MH, Snider and other old long barreled stuff.

The other problem is that when these kits come on the market, they have been used to death. It is very rare to find bore brushes in decent shape. I thought I had that problem licked, because new Parker Hale brushes are available form Brownells. Unfortunately the thread size has changed and the new brushes don't fit on the old sectioned rods.

New sectioned rods are available (also at Brownells) but they are brass, not steel. I am contemplating having someone machine me a couple of adapters.
