1943 Colt Slide markings
I am very new to service 1911's so looking for guidance. My local pawn dealer got in 2 1911A1's yesterday. 1 Ithaca & 1 colt. I Have a 1918 1911 Colt so looking to add a WW2 model to my collection. The Colt is blued & in excellent shape Frame marked correctly but slide only has P proof in front of rear sight, no sn on rear of slide. No arsenal rebuild stamps. Were any colts issued without sn's on the slide? He is asking $2200 which sounds high. Comments on price & markings.
Would appreciate your responses.

It would help to know the serial number of the Colt. The Colt slides were serial numbered up to almost 1.14 million. Colt also stopped blueing their 1911A1 in the 734500 serial number range.

S/N is not available as the pawn shop has it on 10 day hold for required stolen property check. You answered my question though as it would have to been reblued by someone other than the arsenal if there were no sn' on the slide. Thought it looked too good.
Thanks for the info.

How did you know it was a 1943 issue without the serial number? A 1943 Colt would have originally had a phosphate finish, so not a re-blue.

Guys,
Granted most pawn shops will tell you any story to make a sale but here the sacasim isn't warranted here. I have dealt with this owner for years and bought several nice pieces from him. He normally is up to snuff on the items he has but I think he missed it on this one as a refinish job or a mixmaster based on feedback info from Johnny. I will see it next week when it comes out and get the SN.

I would think a commercially reblued 1911A1 would sell in the $500 range.
The SN of the pistol should be available in the pawn shop owner's Bound Book. (Federal takes precedence over state & local law.)
