Well I'm not a fan of any of the US made M1Aicon semis. They all tend to be junk, that's why they have warrenties, so you can send them back to the factory and hopefully get them fixed!
Of course the only ones that still have warrenties are new made sprungfelds, all the other US made M1A makers are long since out of business so it's just like buying a chicom.
As for dependability - over the years I have read reports of catastrophic malfunctions occuring with every single maker of US made M1A rifles. I have never yet seen a single report of that with either the norinco or poly tech rifles - NOT ONE! Yep, believe it when the so called "expurtz" tell you the chicoms are junk!
I know of factory original M14/S rifles - no US parts - with over 10K rds thru them w/o a problem.
I have an All Original norinco M14/S and it is as good, or Better than any of the US made rifles. Yep, it has no warrenty - so what, It has never needed one!
I also have a norinco M14 select fire. I have it only because it was so cheap I couldn't resist buying it. It is just like ALL the US made M14 select fire rifles, a POS on FA!!! I never shoot it, but I will take it to the range occasionaly to let some other guy shoot it.
If I want to shoot a main battle rifle on FA I use my FN/FAL which is totaly controllable.
I shoot my Garand more than my M14/S.

I have a 1990/1 SA M1Aicon that I have shot the living crap out of since I bought brand new. Never a hiccup, never a failure of any kind. I've hunted a great deal with it. With it, I can do no wrong. The failures I've read about were more driver error than malfunction of the rifle. That said, I have a buddy of mine who has a Norinco and he has run just as much ammo through his as I have mine. No issues at all. The fitment and finish are not near as nice but hey, it is reliable.

...mattgunguy & browningautorifleicon... positive & negative (opinions)..... you kill me guys!

@ browningautorifle: well, you're right. An original rifle is always better than its copy and it has an intrinsic "moral value". Anyways, in this case, its cost is more than 3K Euros....

Well, that confirms what I heard in another forum.

    That surprises me, very.

My 20 year old Norinco would not have beneifited from a 1 yr warranty. The only thing that it has done is shoot MOA with US LC delinked M-60 ammo while my Springfield match, built with a Kreioff barrel and match built by Bruce Dow could not shoot as well with match ammo. Shame on that Chinese junk.

I desire to thank all who answered to this thread. Reading all the posts I make my idea and finally I got an M14icon ...even if "made in China" (US made is too expensive for my pocket).
Now... now it needs a lot of patience to remove all the "oil" (?) that embeds the metal parts (and not only...)
Good stuff? B******t ? I'll tell you on the next months. Again, many thanks to you all!

Good for you! The case is pretty straightforward: we can't have a real M14 so we approximate one with an M1Aicon. They are all "reasonable facsimilies" so just get one you like and can afford.

If you're looking for some info on exactly what to do with these guns, pm me and I'll provide a link to another forum that has truckloads of info on the Norc M14/305 rifle.

There are thousands of these beauties here in Canadaicon and lots of people who know exactly what it needs and what it will do when tuned. Out of the box, it's a good, relatively inexpensive (they go for $450 CAN here) rifle. Tune that sucker, and it's as good or better than rifles 3x the cost.

One thing, though. I hope you have a deep wallet, or learn to reload, because you WILL become addicted to this rifle platform!!!
    Welcome to the addiction!!!
