    Question Norinco M14

Hello everybody! Maybe it's a topic already covered, but I try to ask. It was looking on a guns magazine that I saw an M14icon (US production): nice! But... yeah! its price (over Euros 3,000.oo without scope) is not for my pocket. Then I saw a Norinco M14, copy of the US M14: no wood, only polymer; its price (without scope) is about Euros 500.oo
I said myself "too cheap, something is wrong" and I moved to look for any impressions on another fireguns forum: 90% posts I fond were positive. Insiede the other 10% negative, a guy (only one) wrote it has a "soft bolt"...
Inside this Forum is there anyone who shot that rifle?
    All opinions are welcome.
    Thanks.

The Norinco M14s are generally good with some minor potential issues.

I just got a new one and it shoots well and functions 100%, but the rear sight windage is extremely tight and the front sight base is canted. These are the sort of little problems you can encounter.

The "soft bolt" issue seems to go back to early imports into the US. Not a problem for the more recent guns at all.

There are boatloads of these guns in Canadaicon. They are a great value and any small problems can be sorted out with replacement parts, as most USGI parts will interchange.

Of course, they're not so cheap after you start adding stuff to them. They sell for around 325 Euros in Canada.

All in all these are "easy solution troubles"...

I supposed. His was the only one advice about that.

You're welcome. Is the model you're considering the standard style with 22" barrel or the "shorty" version with the 18.5" barrel?

There have also been problems with the fire control group, & many owners replace it with USGI. You want to be sure that you have a gunsmith nearby who is familiar with this rifle, & has the parts & tools needed to work on it.

Personally, I wouldn't own a high power rifle that was sold "as is". In the US, Norinco's were sold out of the back of a truck in a dark alley. There was no warranty, no factory support, no parts, & no service. Even the importer hid his identity. I'd buy a $10 beach chair that way, but not an expensive rifle that I will be shooting 3 cm in front of my face. In Canadaicon the importer gives a 1 year warranty, but the factory still gives no support.

Don't expect the Chicoms to offer the kind of service you get from Beretta.

That's not wrote. But looking at the pic it seems to be 22" barrel, isn't it?

I have a polytech M14s. It has been a good rifle. The bolt issue aside, a polytech or a norinco is a fine rifle for a fraction the cost of a "American" made rifle. Many will say a Chinese rifle is junk. Not so. The norinco will have a drop forged receiver. A Springfield Armory won't. I like a chrome lined barrel (i shoot a fair bit of corrosive ammo),which my Chinese rifle has. Not so the Springfield. By and large a norinco is built to USGI spec, so parts can be interchanged. I've talked to a gentleman in Naples who has extra parts. I'll send you his name and information if I can find it.

Sorry, I have a rabbit of carrying on on a somethings. Just don't let most of us Americans talk you out of a perfectly good rifle, just because it wasn't made in America. I envy the Canadians for still being able to get a new norinco.

I envy US citizens that can buy and register a class 3 US Rifle M14icon...I'd way rather have that then a Norinco...
