Olympic Arms SAW marked lower.
Just purchased a 'retro' AR15 A1. Very nice rifle. Question I have is that it is marked Olympic Arms over the selector, but the mag well is marked SAW. The SAW is inside two circles, then SAW15. I've heard of the SGW Olys, but not the SAW marked ones. What's the scoop on these?

Check and make sure it is "SGW" instead of "SAW". Olympic was also SGW, AKA Schuetzen Gun Works.

It's definitely SAW. I've had two stop sign SGWs, so this is a new variation to me. It is SAW inside two circles, below that Mod SAW15.

Per Olympic Arms site, SAW = Semiautomatic Assault Weapon. As best I can figure this is an BATF&E requirement by their definition of pre-ban vs post-ban ARs. They also made a Kaliforniev version stamped PCR = Politically Correct Rifle.

I saw something regarding SAW as a company that Olympic Arms made lowers for. Unfortunately that's all I could find. I'd be curious to know who made the upper, as I can't find any markings on it. I'm guessing this is a pretty early rifle, as the serial number is S009*. Actually I just don't know. Have never seen one of these. It appears to be an extremely well put together rifle. Tight all over, not rough finished at all.
