    Interesting SMLE nose cap

Hi all. I am looking for some information on an SMLE nose cap that recently came into my possession. See picture below. Is this a bubba job, or is this an actual variation? I heard somewhere that RFI made a "no bayonet" SMLE nosecap at one time. Is that what this is? Any help appreciated.

Definitely "Bubba-fied". MOST SMLE nosecaps have the back of the bayonet boss bored out, (for "lightening"?), hence the lower hole. If you look closely, there is an arc of different colouration in the metal where the boss would have been.

The nosecaps that were used in the various early experimental rifles that led to the No4 had much better made variations on the theme.

The "Ears" have been cropped as well.

And ... I've had one similar for ages, standard ears, original blueing, no bayo boss and no sign of one being machined off in any way at all, also RFI, I have it no more but hung onto it for ages wondering if I'd find an answer, very odd it was ...
