New guy with a new 1917 sporter
Gentlemen:
New member w/ a REALLY nice looking sporter 1917.
Was looking for a 1903A3 sporter to use as a base to build a T Model replica and went into my favorite dealer w/no luck on the 03A3. BUT there appeared a pair of 1917 Enfields. An Eddystone and a Remington. Remington followed me home.
It has an after market barrel marked Cal 30 06 R. F. (I think as the R is faint) Wood Artesia New Mexico and may be a 2 groove. Bore is bright. Anyone heard of Mr. Wood?
Stock is aftermarket and is well fitted but have not figured out the mfg yet. Will shoot and glass bed if required. Recoil pad will need to be replaced.
There is some surface rust on the barrel that I can safely correct.
The 1917 hump has been removed and the floor plate is an after market with an elongated diamond containing the initials JBR which I assume are the original owners initials. Correct me if I am wrong.
The rear sight and ears are gone and it looks like professional work. Front sight is something I have never seen before. The base wraps around the barrel.
It has a Bushnell Banner 3-9 scope that is clear w/no bubbles, but it will have to go as I need a Redfield or Lyman long slide receiver sight that is correct for the period and repeats. Any ideas on market value and where I could find one? 65 markings on the slide would be good.
Most of the blue is gone except on the barrel.
Nope, have no desire to restore to original military configuration as the work is really good and I need a cast boolit shooter for 600 yd 1 minute groups. Yea right. )
Paid $250 + tax.
Cheers

A T model 03 was a target model w/a 30" heavy barrel, 48c rear site, BAR front site, stock similar to the 22 RF target rifle that was available in the 30's. Don't remember whether a globe front was used, but pretty sure the BAR was the front siite. I used to have a copy of some pages from the Brophy book that had all the specs. Had a friend, who is no longer with us, that was competitive w/one he built, at 600 yds using cast boolits. Embarressed a bunch of us in any site, any rifle 600 yd matches. His was a 28" barrel and he had decided his next build was to be 26".
maybe some day I can build one.

Bad news is I have difficulty w/Photobucket and am not able to use it to post pics. Seems about 10 years ago I used them when we lived in Nevada and I had the same email address and am not able, so far, to resurrect my account. If anyone can help w/them, or at least advise me I would be glad to post pics.
BTW the Bushnell scope is something I never heard of. It's a Bushnell Custom-M 3-9 with a really weird set of mounts.
Think I am going to love this rifle.

I had the same problem with them. I now use Image Shack, & it works real good.

Chuck
U are correct in that there never was an 03A3 T Model. My objective is/was to create an
A3 copy of the 03 T and when I answered another post I referred to the 03 not A3. Objective is to create a shooter using the A3 receiver as the base for the T model and use Lyman rear and BAR front sights. This would be a shooter, not a collector.
