There was a contract to Winchester for riot guns with factory sling swivels to be installed . This was in late '41 / early '42 for the National Guard and was for model '97 s only. These are found in the 912,000 range. They are the ONLY known contract for riot guns with sling swivels in the WW2 and before time periods from any mfg. It is not unknown for guns to be retrofitted with factory swivels during rebuilds , however , but these would be the under tube type.
Baring any further information , I'd have to say this is an add on . By whom and when is anyone's guess.
    Chris

That's a trench gun magazine plug. Trench gun mag plugs have the centering stud on them for the bayonet adaptor. Riot gun mag plugs have a flat face (no stud). Most, if not all, of the original Model 12 riot guns do not have sling swivels. But if you must have swivels, you need to find a Model 12 barrel band that has the swivel and a riot gun mag plug. I suspect the barrel band with integral sling swievel will be a very difficult part to find.

Huh so it's a trench mag plug? That's very cool. I have seen the barrel bad with the sling adapter on it. While I was searching for this subject. I'll have to pick one up. Where would I find the magazine plug?

That's what I first though too...but I still wonder if you could maybe take a close up pic of the front of the mag plug...not a blow up of the rear angle.

A trench plug would have a solid projection. One for a swivel would have to have a cross drilled hole.
A '97 trench plug would not have the take down pin nor a hole for it. The model 12 plug I think ( don't have one to look at ) has the hole drilled but does not use it.

Right, that's a sling swivel stud. Just a very recent attachment. Brand new and not military for that gun. This is why clear pics are priceless, it saves conjecture...you still need an original mag plug and the front band with the swivel on it. Maybe a clear pic of the butt swivel would be in order...?
