Thanks Mike, a pic of the full rod would be good with a tape measure next to it? I,m sure whats left is part of the original.

Sorry Mike, Was forgetting about your Cull, there is a pic in the book by Joe Poyer, the rod I have is from something else as it has the "eye" in the end, I just assumed this was just a part of it.

Thanks Mike, thats plenty of leads, but problem is the cash I had set aside I blew today on a Frenchicon MAS 1936-51, it was a $40 more than the rod bayonet in the link, was a deal that I couldnt pass on, as in the PM, I got the SMLE barreled action too...... anyone want to buy some medals ?

    Hi,
I'm not sure if this has been answered, but that rod on your M1888 is not the rod bayonet, or any part of one. The rifle looks pretty nice though. Expect some amount of play in the block, they're designed that way. For parts etc. try Al Frasca's website trapdoorcollector.com. He's a very decent guy and extremely wise in all things "trapdoor". For what it's worth, the rod bayo for that rifle is just under a yard long, say, 35 1/2". Maybe a hair more. That Lyman cast handbook has very good loads for the TD rifles. I have had great satisfaction with the Lee .459" 405gr. Hollow Base and Varget. Hope this helps.

  10. Thank You to M2phil For This Useful Post:
