    Persian Mauser ?

    Ok guys,
My wife bought me this the other week for my birthday. The guy said it was a K98K but when I got it I wasn't sure. I asked on another forum and they recon its a model 49. Any Idea what the writing actually says on the side

    These are the pictures

The bore of the barrel is mint looks like it has never been used. Best birthday present I ever got anyway

    Regards

    Chris

Yes, it's an Iranian Model 49

On the action body, from right to left:

Karabin namunah 1328 sakht eslihah-e sazi artesh
= Model 1328 Carbine made by the Army Arsenal.

At least, that's what it says in Lapin's book, and who am I to doubt it?
    Note: 1328 in the post-1925 Iranian/Persian calendar =1328 +621 = 1949.

Try to find Winny/Rem 8mm ammunition. The short barrel makes for tough recoil.

I can only seem to find PPU ammo. I will keep my eye out for Winny/Rem 8mm

I have one in that condition and recoil would be an issue.
I think its about the same length as my G 33/40, and VZ 33.

Neither my 33/40 and the LE No. 5 were/are problematic as regards recoil. I just do not understand what the problem could be. I am now nearly 80 years old and have been shooting the LE No. 5 since I was about 18 and have never experienced a really heavy recoil (the only problem has been that I am now part deaf).
