    Ar 57

Shot this last Sunday---if there wasn't snow all over the ground, I'd be shooting it again today.
The 5.7x28 upper is installed on a Bushmaster lower, with the special 57 buffer in the tube----the 57 is a blowback system and requires a heavier buffer, (the one for the rifle tube is a special order item from 57 Center).

Function was flwless through 50 rounds and then my fingers froze.
Accuracy was good, but this was my first session with an EO Tech, so I didn't get any keeper targets.
    Next time.

How ironic that I spelled "flawless" as "flwless" in the first post. I love irony.
Anyway, here are a couple more photos.
The standard FN made 50 round magazine is used----but must be obtained elsewhere, as it does not come with the upper.

I looked at one those uppers at the local shop. They want $750.00 for it. I thought that was a little extream. Very cool though. I saw one on Shooting USAicon on the Outdoor Channel a while back.

Extreme?.....Perhaps, but the other option in this caliber is a horrid Bullpup that costs a lot more.
I traded five very pedestrian No4 Enfields and a Benjamin for the upper, a magazine and 250 rounds of the SS195 ammunition.
Now I can walk around in the gunroom a little.

Okay, maybe extreme was a little extreme How does it perform? I sure like the look of it. What capacity magazine did you get. The one I looked at was 10 round. How pathetic I must say I was impressed with how it looks. It has a good weight and feel to it as well. Does it balance out well with the lower?

Good to see a first hand report on one of those things. Was considering popping one on my Stag lower. Went with a 6.8 SPC, but I'm still keeping open options with the War Department...

    jr,
If the weather holds, I'll have more information and maybe a target or two this coming Sunday.
I have both the blue box round, with the Hornaday 40 grain and more of the FN-made 28 grain SS195, so some kind of broader test results should be available.

Well, the weather finally broke, so myself and every other member of my club went to the range today.
As a result, this trip wasn't as thorough a test as I would have liked it to be.

Started out with the SS195 at 100 yards---a mistake, given the +/-30mph cross wind. Targets were only of the 'marginal" nature, with me chasing the wind with the EOTech adjustment screws.
Later, on the 600 yard range up the hill, the cross wind was turned into a following wind and it's effect was minimized. Here's where the AR57 and EOTech really shined.
In rapid fire mode, clays on the 50 yard berm were broken, broken again and then the pieces were broken one more time.
Once I got out of the gale and stopped trying (stupidly) to stretch the useful range of this pistol round, everything started to work right...and I got happy.

Both the SS195 and the Blue Box A Max worked well at 50 yards and there was no elevation adjustment required when switching between the two.
One failure to feed---which bent the cartridge nicely.
So, that would be one FTF in 250 rounds, straight out of the box.
(After today, I also don't hate the EO Tech anymore.)
