my long range hunter type 99 7.7

Picked this up missing parts and not well taken care of i made her into my long range hunter, i love the 7.7 cartridge when loaded right, my handloads push a 170 bthp at 2550 fps ,i have shot it all the way out to 600 meters and it is deadly accurate, glass bedded barrel, pillar bedded the action, reblued it,bent and polished the bolt handle , did the stock i bought from boyds myself , i love this rifle , may not be worth much to anyone else but for me does the job, i normaly would not do this to a milsurp , but i just love those old arisaka 99s and the catridge it pushes handloaded to my specs will do most anything the .308 will do . i do have two ther arisaka 99s one is original ,other was restored the original does have all parts and mum is intact. early model nagoya,s

some better pics of her i call her lucille.600 is as long a range i have acess to i am sure i could do more and farther if given the chance. As i said , normaly i do not build bubbaed mil-surps but i wanted this one and it had been pre altered, now she shoots like a modern rifle. Drops whitetails in their tracks most times, the bipod was just for pics ,i have one mounted to sling swivel on stock now..

You did good work there, so many of these were butchered.
Can you expound on the scope mount? Looks like it is made for the sight base.
Is it solid enough for the recoil?

Beautiful rifle although I have mixed feelings about it. Most are positive however. I see so many of these rifles ruined by semi-sporterizing and even some nice jobs sell at auction for almost nothing. I don't understand why the complete lack of interest in them when they are a very high quality rifle. You really have to find someone special to hand these down to because you'll have a hard time selling it.

I am often tempted to pick one of these bargains up but I already have a good hunting rifle so I let them go.

    Dave,
I like what you did, especially if it was bubba'd already. While I am a fan of keeping military rifles in their fighting trim, I am also aware that you faced with about 70years of gunsmithing on these old warriors.
I have been thinking about getting a civilized Arisakaicon one of these days as a potential hunting rifle. The action is plenty strong enough, and the round as you indicated certainly can take down most game in America.
Glad you posted your efforts! And keep shooting!!

The mount is from accumounts , you can use it as a scout mount or full sized scope mount , comes with extra attaching rail ,And yes it stands up to recoil from my stout hunting loads well , and i never plan to sell it , this will go to my son someday , And i agree on leaving most mil-surps as is , i will only alter one was allready altered, i would never do that to a complete mum intact arisaka or any other milsurp in fact , but this was gotten cheap and i was bored and decided to see just how nice a rifle i could make out of her since it was near worthless as it was a parts gun, shame too was an early nagoya , but bubba had cannabalized it long ago.
But now she is deadly accurate with my handloads, scope is a bushnell 4x12 power, with the yardage setting on end bell.for clearing up vision and removing blur at long range on the sight picture.Like you said most would not pay much for it untill they shot it once then i bet some hunter that reloads would lol. it is that deadly at long range.thanx guys i did put a lotta time into her.

Forgot to mention ,does have the chrome lined barrel so bore is immaculate, very near looks mint. She is a great shooter now and i love handloading hot hunting loads for her , she can take a day long pounding and still hit dead on at long range. For a bubba i think i did an outstanding job , but you know how some people are no matter how good you do its ruined lol. . thanx all i love her all that matters and my son can not wait to own it ,think he is hoping i go young to get my collection lol.Darn kids nowadays lol.

Roger that,, I thought it was Poly, I think it looks the best on hunting rifles where a gloss finish is desirable. The only thing with poly though is the gloss will dull in spots that see the most handling. To combat that use a finishing wax Minwax finishing paste is a good one. I've been know to do a stock or two, again it looks good...
