Second that. I read an article in the USAicon Today newspaper about yesterday. It said there are only around 1,000,000 US vets of WW2 left. It was a profoundly sad article. My grandpop was in the Army Air during the aftermath of the war until the mid 50's. He had some stories to tell. Been dead for a decade. The Greatest Generation is almost gone. We need to remember and honor them.

My grand-daughters Language Arts Teacher organized the following,

"In honor of Veteran's Day, 8th grade social studies teachers would like to show our appreciation to local veterans in a very simple but tangible way. We'd like to have students, along with teachers, deliver baked goods and thank you notes to those amazing people in our community who have served our nation. We will do this on the afternoon of November 11th, via D303 bus. Depending on the response we receive, we may not be able to make a personal delivery to every veteran. But, we will be sure to at least get a card out to each person!"

Two buses spent about 3 hours yesterday afternoon making stops, the neighbor I submitted was really appreciative, a VN vet who sent me the following.

    "Joe, Trinity,

I received a nice surprise this afternoon, a teacher and 5 girls from Wredling knocked on the door and thanked me and gave me a container full of cookies. I was very honored that Trinity's class took the time to thank me and other veterans on this special day."

Within an hour I received another e-mail from him.

"Please share this with Trinity about being thanked.

The first time I came home after being wounded, I could walk with the help of a cane since I had been wounded in each knee and my gut, I was in uniform. I got lots of stares but no one really spoke to me. It was nice to get home and see my wife of one year and my family.
The year I was discharged was the same about thank you's, but I came home from Germanyicon where I had spent the last 7 months of my military career, a gift tour from a Colonel who liked me, so I was able to just get home and find a job before finishing college. I had one semester left.

So any thank you, even now after so many years is special. Those were troubling years back then, so much controversy, and unhappiness. It's good to see the servicemen and women of today being looked upon with more respect."

Needless to say I sent a my thanks to the teacher as well as what my neighbor related, anyone else have a school do this for their vets?
