    Experience With CMP?

I'm putting together all the paperwork for a CMPicon purchase of an M1icon. I'd like to know how the experience was for people who have purchased guns from them.

I generally hear very good reports from CMPicon but the paper work and all the B.S. has stopped me from buying from them. I don't think you can go wrong. If you are close by one of their stores I would suggest you take a field trip and visit them in person. You can still have it shipped to avoid tax.

5 Garands (SA), 3 Carbines(Inland, Saginaw) , one 1903 (Rem), absolutely no problems. Ordered a SA Garandicon and received a Greek return that had been re-built, black park and never fired after the re-build. Could not bear to shoot it. So I ordered another and it too came completely re-built unfired after rebuild. Had to shoot that one...rats.. This was about 8 years ago. Made a trip to the North store when there were so many carbines and Garands I honestly started shaking at the sight. Just the experience of seeing such a thing shall remain with me forever. They will begin to dry up, and as it is said they don't make them anymore. I try to shoot a few CMPicon matches a year and drag one out when I encounter any veteran that come by the house. The look on their face is priceless.

I have bought a M1icon Garand, a 1903A3 and a M1 Carbine through CMPicon and have been happy wit all of the transactions. Also bought some LC M1 and some Carbine ammo through them.

I have bought 9 garands, 4 carbines, 2 03's, ammo, parts. Always very satisfied. One of the
03's was toward the lower end of the description, but that is luck of the draw. The next one more than made up for it. You will do well.

CMPicon is a first rate organization. Unfortunately, given the increased business costs, including Obamacare, and the fact that it is running out of surplus rifles and ammo, what is left is getting bumped up in price. The M1icon Garands currently available are the best deal going, the surplus .30-'06 HXP (Greek) ammo somewhat less so but still not bad. Bolt action rifles and M1 carbines are essentially gone and no more are expected to come in the pipeline. If you at all desire a Garand, get hot now, a Service Grade example ($625 + $25 shipping in a hard plastic gun case) will generally be a quite nice example, the equivalent of which will likely cost you around $1000 or more at a gun show or in a local gun shop. Tune into the CMP Forum linked below if you haven't already done so and note "nary is heard a discouraging word":

Go for it, you won't regret it!

I happen to live about 30 miles from the North store at Camp Perry and believe it or not only make a couple of trips a year there one in the first week of August during the rifle matches to hit Vendors Row but always stop at the CMPicon store. I have purchased 2 M1icon's from them an Inland Carbine and a Smith Corona 03-A3 I have also helped several friends pick out their M1's. When I bought my 03 from them I got a can of LC 30.06 and thee man at the counter told me it was one of the last batches of LC they would get as the supplies were dried up. Since they have carried HXP the Greek equivalent of our M2 ball It is still available for 98 dollars for 240 rounds from the CMP. These are the same cans I see at local guns shows for as much as $140. the North store has no 03's or carbines left with no expectations of any coming in. There is hope once the present regime in Washington is ousted that the ones in Korea will return. I last visited Perry in October to pick up some more HXP and they had a good selection of M1's left but talking to a gentleman in December at a local show he claimed he was there the prior week and the racks were almost bear and only the high end rifles left.
Several years ago I ordered 500 rounds of .30 carbine from them and it took several months for it to arrive and it was Aquilia which may not be stout enough to reliably cycle your rifle.
One other side note when I went to pick up my Carbine and 03a3 on a Friday I noticed a 1 ton Dually pickup being loaded with cases of rifles and pallets of ammo and was decidedly sagging at the back bumper. the next day at a show 90 miles away I saw this same individual set up selling the same stuff with at least a 40% markup. $500 dollar rifles for $900-$1000 and at that time a $78 spam can of HXP for $130

That story could be here as well, you see it repeatedly...the dollars are different but it's story that remains. I wish I could shop CMPicon...

once the paperwork is on file an easy purchase I ordered on online and then was in the area of the north store for work and dropped in over lunch since the paperwork for the online purchase was complete I only had to prove who I was and hand picked a service grade Garandicon good people to do business with and friendly.

I've purchased 4 M1icon rifles, 2 1903's, and 6 Mossberg M44US training rifles, plus a bunch of ammo. I would not keep going back if I was not pleased with doing business with them. (And the paperwork is not that big of a deal!)
