    M97 Buttplate

Well, I took off the buttplate from my new M97 to clean it and it broke in two I've glued it together but don't know if it will hold. Got a replacement from Numrich but it needs to be shaped to fit and this is something I've never done. It is way over sized.

All commiseration, suggestions and offers of help will be appreciated.

you can (and should) shape it with a palm sized electric sander ...

mount the buttplate and carefully wrap the stock with a single layer of some metal coated duct tape.

then go to work on the butt plate, slowly sanding the edges taking care not to sand through the tape ...

    (use wet/dry 280 grit Carborundum - finish with 320)

it goes without saying that slow and careful work will get the result here that you're looking for,,,
