    Winchester 52D

Last month I glommed several .22 target rifles at various on-line auctions, including this Winchester 52D.

It finally arrived at my FFL and I got to take a look at it. The metal and bluing is almost pristine and the stock, while having a few dents and bruises, is also in great shape.

It has "US" electro-penciled above the serial number on the left side of the receiver, which matches recent sales of these rifle from the CMPicon. I may contact the CMP and request a record search to confirm this.

Last month I also glommed a Winchester 52B and a Remington 513T with a Fecker scope on it.

The "D" is the only version of the 52 I've never owned. But our rifle team in college had a pile. Of the lot, the "C" is my favorite followed by the early speed lock 52s.

Every once in a while an "E" turns up on the auctions. Big money, but man...what a rifle.

How much, roughly for an "E"? Mine's had the stock shortened, so it won't bring top end. Not that's it's going anywhere, barring dramas...

So what do you think of your "B"? Sold mine off years ago, which was possibly a mistake, but the trigger wasn't as good as those before or after. Tiny annoyance, but it was enough!

The E's that I've seen are $1500 and up.

I still haven't shot my B yet, but it does have a Canjar trigger, which is supposed to be much better than the original trigger.

Just got out of the woods after a 6 hour squirrel hunt in the drippy mist. Saw only one, but it saw me first and disappeared into a tree. However, it just so happened that the "C" was the rifle chosen yesterday afternoon for today's hunt, so here's a few photos in the "real world":

Never mind all the water, this rifle has hunted in far worse over the years! (Have no clue where the lens protectors went, so today a Subway sandwich bag was pressed into service. Bought a new flip open cap on the way back...) Eezox, tung oil, and the fact that it was purchased already refinished makes this one a great choice for adverse conditions.

Since your "D" is US marked it ought to be good for multiple entries into Bigduke6's annual thread:

Milsurp Target Competition and Shoot (2014)

It ought to eat the center out of the 25yd target. Probably the 50 yd as well if you find ammo it likes.

    I'll look into that match.

I've got a couple of H&R M12's that are US marked...should have shot this match earlier.

Finally picked up my rifles and took some pics.

The Winchester 52D is in great shape...very good metal and wood. Bore is amazing.
