You could do that and fill the end in with a good epoxy and then shape it.

Hakims recoil like a 30 carbine and are very loud.I have found they are very accurate and like the heavy 196gr load. The gas adjustment tool is very rare. very nice rifle excellent presentation.

I found one more issue. Broken rear band retainer clip but found a replacement. He also has the gas tool at what seems like a fair price.

I had the opportunity to shoot one the other day. Nice rifle and functioned flawlessly. Be sure to watch a video and pay special attention to loading and charging details as this is not easy for the uninitiated like me. Figuring this out with no guidance from the owner was a challenge. Watching the video after cleared everything up.

I did shoot it under a roof. I did not notice any issues with doing so. No one was beside me on either side. The person standing behind me said they felt the blow back.

I took three of my rifles up the same day, M1icon carbine, M1 Garand and MAS 49/56. Both M1's functioned flawlessly and the Garand was on paper every time. I had some difficulty zeroing the carbine and may need to get a taller front sight for it. Nice groups, just way high. The MAS was on paper every shot too (as was the Hakim). I did have two jambs with the MAS. Could be the commercial ammo I was using, could be I didn't load it right. None of them had any recoil to speak of. I probably shot close to 60 rounds in a short period wearing a T-shirt.

7.5 x 54 on the MAS or 7.61x51 convert? Have you modified or replaced the fireing pin to address the potential slam fire issue? The Hakim thumb issue is suppose to make Garandicon thumb look like trimming your finger nails. I have watched some videos and familerized myself with the (shall I say odd) loading procedure. Looking forward to getting it completed and fireing.
CMPicon sent ammo & assessories to taunt me no rifle yet. The folks at CMP are some of the most cordial & helpful I have ever delt with on the telephone. Missing bayonet screw no problem arrived in two days.

MAS is original. Never heard of a slam fire issue with these. It is hard on brass. Throws them about 30 feet making them hard to find in the grass too. There is an odd protrusion on the bolt face that dents the base of the rim and it dents about a third of the casings on ejection. The Garandicon is kind of a bear to load too but probably just because I'm in the learning phase.

There is supposedly an issue of slam fires on some Mas 49/56s with commercial ammo. Fix is shortening the FP or replacing it with a titanium one.

I was shooting Privi. I didn't feel like cleaning it immediately so left the surplus home. Didn't have any firing issues, just the hang up in the magazine.
