Off topic - Sourcing a Sterling Stock in UK and shipping to Germany?

I have a friend who has a friend in need of a Sterling stock... is it possible to find one in the UKicon and ship it to Germanyicon? Any thoughts would be most appreciated.

Occasionally turn up on Ebay but there are two/three different types. Mail from Englandicon to Germanyicon, both EU countries doesn't need customs declaration so there's no logistical problem

They are out there, & prices are rising. as a chap I know has been buying them all up when available. To build Blank Firing ALMOST look a-likes. I have one myself! However, 'standard'
L2A3 Folding Buttstocks I have not seen in a LONG while! The ones that do surface, are invariably brand new & frequently in the original boxes. BUT! They are all L2A2 variants & will NOT fit any of the L2A3 Deact's Etc that are for sale in the Uk Etc. The reason being, these L2A2 butts have a longer length, & will NOT engage on the Butt Trunnions of the A2 Variants. So pretty much well useless, unless you are making a replica from scratch. & are able to braze the trunnions in a position where it would fit & work correctly!

Just a thought, but if you had more readily available an L2A1 (a Mk2 gun) or an L2A2 (a Mk3 gun) butt, would it be possible to unbraze the locking lug/peg on each inner-side of the main butt strut and move each so that they correspond with the new folding geometry of the L2A3 (a Sterling Mk4 gun)?

What do L2A3/Mk4 butts fetch Tankie?

Pete, If I remember correctly. Because the L2A2 butt is longer. It would NOT engage into the cut out in the front of the receiver. to Hold the Butt Assy in the folded position. The Locking lugs on the inside of either side of the butt assy. Are fitted into square cut outs & then brazed into position. You COULD grind them flat & make two replacements. Then cut out/ file 2 x square holes to locate the lugs, for the butt in the open position. But you are then still left with the problem of the Butt NOT able to fold forward & engage in hole for the 'Stowed' position!

If you look at an L2A2 & a L2A3 underneath. At the position of the Butt Trunnions. You WILL observe that they are in different locations on the receiver Tube.

As L2A2 Butts fetch approx. £45 -£85 Pete. I would say an L2A3 has got to be worth about near the top end mark, or more if your not too bothered about selling it for a lower price! The BEST place to sell it in my opinion. would be 'THAT' auction site, that you are VERY Aware of Mate!......... Cheers!
